No. myTaxExpress software only has one version, which is FREE to be downloaded
from this website. Paid customers need install a license key in myTaxExpress to activate NETFILE/EFILE/Print
functions.
- How to verify if a license key is installed successfully?
[Top][General]
After the license key is installed, e.g. a 10-return license key, you should
see a green bar with a text "M/U(10/0)" displayed at the bottom of the software
window. It means a license key is installed successfully, and you can prepare
maximum 10 returns and zero return is prepared so far.
- What is a license PIN?
[Top][General]
License PIN is a unique string identifying each myTaxExpress installation. After clicking
on menu "Help/License | Install License Key Manually...", a license window will pop up
with a license PIN.
An email with the displayed license PIN will be prepared by clicking on button "Generate PIN email".
You can send that email to us at [email protected] in order to get a license key.

from each myTaxExpress installation. Only the matching license key and PIN can activate
myTaxExpress NETFILE/EFILE/Print functions; Otherwise, myTaxExpress is working under
a trial status.
The general process of licensing myTaxExpress is to let us know your license PIN,
We will send you license key afterwards. We developed online license key retrieval
system to let customers to retrieve license keys by themselves without waiting for our

- What's coupled tax return?
[Top][General]
Spouses need to file tax returns separately either by NETFILE or paper. However spousal tax data
are used in each other's tax return. Coupled return in myTaxExpress means just one tax return file
for two persons so spousal data can be cross-referenced automatically. Customers can avoid wasteful
duplication of effort when preparing tax returns for a couple. But at the end of preparation, customers still
need to generate two NETFILE files or two paper prints to complete the filing process. Read help on coupled return for
details.
- How to show page 4 of T1?
[Top][General]
Each tax form may have several pages, for example,
T1 has 4 pages, Schedule 1 has 2 pages. There are several
page tabs at the top of each tax form. You can
click those page tabs to switch pages. You will see the content of page 4 of T1
by clicking on the fourth tab at the top of T1.
- why I cannot input numbers on line 101 of T1?
[Top][Tax]
Line 101 of T1 is employment income, which is stated on your T4 slip. You
need add a T4 slip to the return by using menu "Slips/Notes | Add T4 slip". The number entered on box
14 of T4 slip will be automatically transferred to line 101 of T1.
- Why only part of my CPP amount is displayed on line 308 of Schedule 1?
[Top][Tax]
CPP eligible is calculated by form T2204, which is automatically added in your return.
T2204 will calculate the maximum CPP eligible according to your T4 slip(s). If only part of
your CPP is displayed on line 308 of schedule 1, it means you have a CPP overpayment. CPP overpayment
is served as a tax credit on line 448 on page 4 of T1. Check form T2204 in your return for
CPP overpayment calculation.
- How do I carry forward RRSP contribution to next year?
[Top][Tax]
On line 10 of schedule 7 (RRSP), you can enter a partial amount you want to claim for this year,
the remaining RRSP amount will be carried forward to next year as your unused RRSP contribution.
- What is HBP repayment in Schedule 7?
[Top][Tax]
HBP plan is only for first time home buyer, so you can
only claim it once in life.
After that, you need to buy RRSP every year to repay this
HBP withdrawal by at least a minimum amount until it's all paid back. Your
HBP repayment should be entered into line 246 in
schedule 7. This repayment can not be used to
reduce your net income as regular RRSP purchase.
If you don't buy RRSP in a year to fulfill the repayment requirement,
CRA will add the minimum HPB repayment amount to line 129 of your T1, as your RRSP income. You need to pay
income tax on that.
- Why are there three download versions and different sites?
[Top][install]
All 3 versions have the same myTaxExpress program packaged inside and can be used to prepare tax returns
and generate NETFILE or EFILE. For the same version, all download sites are working as backup to one
another.
MINI version is the smallest in size, so it's best for dial-up internet users. Standard version
adds CRA official tax forms in the package, so it can generate printable tax return locally on users'
computer; JRE-bundled version then adds JRE setup file in the package, so users can setup JRE after
installing myTaxExpress. JRE setup is required if users want to print locally.
